Let Your Child Reconnect to What Really Matters

Fishing lessons and guided adventures for kids of all ages and abilities in the Concord, MA area

What if your child didn’t just “go outside?”

What if they felt a relationship to the land, and understood that the streams, bogs, and ponds of Concord aren’t just scenery, but that they’re home.

For many kids, fishing becomes a life long passion that brings adventure, travel, friendship, and—most importantly, perhaps—a deep sense of belonging to our natural world.

  • Learn to fish—with fly rods or traditional gear, in a supportive, low-pressure environment

  • Explore local ecosystems with curiosity and reverence

  • Build confidence through hands-on skill-building

  • Be guided by someone who deeply knows and loves the local waters—and who’s been teaching kids to do the same for over two decades

  • Have fun adventuring in their own backyard!

This isn’t just another summer activity. It’s an invitation to slow down, tune in, and connect.

In my fishing camps and lessons, your child will:

“Time in nature is not leisure time; it's an essential investment in our chidlren's health (and also, by the way, in our own).”

— Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder

Hi, I’m Miles

I caught my first fish in the Assabet River behind my childhood home—and it changed my life.

As a kid growing up in Concord in the 1980s, I didn’t fit easily into the rigid structure of traditional classrooms. But outside, in the woods and waters, I came alive. Fishing gave me something school couldn’t: a way to focus my curiosity, a sense of freedom, and a deep connection to the natural world.

When an Orvis fly shop opened in town, I was 17 and already obsessed with bugs, reading water, and tying my own flies. I started guiding customers and teaching fly fishing, and soon after began running kids’ fishing camps. That early passion shaped everything that followed.

Over the past 25+ years, I’ve guided fly fishing trips around the world and taught fishing to kids and adults alike. I’ve studied outdoor play and nature education at Goddard College, led programs through local schools like Fenn, and never stopped exploring the streams, bogs, and ponds of Massachusetts.

But my heart has always stayed close to home—and to the kids who, like me, might need the wildness of nature to feel fully themselves.

Through my fishing lessons and guided trips, I help kids of all abilities build confidence, curiosity, and a connection to place. Whether they’re catching their first fish or learning to track insects on the riverbank, I want every child to feel what I felt as a kid on the Assabet: that the world is full of wonder—and that they belong in it.
