I’m Miles McCloy

I’ve been fishing the Assabet River since I was a kid growing up on its banks.

Growing up, I struggled to fit into the rigid academic system. But outside, things made sense. Fly fishing gave me focus, wonder, and belonging. I became obsessed—in the best way—with insects, river ecology, and where the biggest fish lived. That obsession became a lifelong path.

At 17, I started guiding customers at Concord outfitters, the local Orvis shop, and running kids’ fishing camps. Since then, I’ve guided anglers all over New England and around the world, taught fishing and outdoor education through schools and adult learning programs, and earned my degree studying the role of outdoor play in childhood development at Goddard College.

In 2007, I organized the first-ever trout stocking of the Assabet River, a community effort that still continues each spring—bringing life to the waters I grew up in and helping restore a local fishery for future generations.

Today, I offer guided trips and instruction for all levels—whether you're a beginner picking up a rod for the first time or a seasoned angler looking to deepen your connection to place. I also run seasonal camps and lessons for kids, helping young people build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong relationship with the wild world.

For me, fishing isn’t just a sport. It’s a way to belong—to the land, to the water, and to something greater than ourselves.
